Darnel Barbay

I earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a M.A. in Psychological Counseling and completed 30 additional credit hours with a concentration in Special Education and Psychology.  I have over 35 years experience in education as a School Psychologist and am currently employed with Gilmer County Charter Schools and reside in Ellijay, Ga.

I live in Ellijay, Georgia with my husband Steve. I am retired from my position as guidance counselor at Gilmer High School where I assisted with the color guard of the Marching Bobcat Band. I stay active through traveling and volunteering in the community.

I am a charter member since 1977. I am devoted to my children and family and live in Morganton, Georgia. Currently, I am a limited member.

Janet Davis

I am an educator at Gilmer High School and advisor to career and technical student organizations.  As a Work-Based Learning Coordinator, I provide career education experiences in the form of awareness, exploration and connecting activities.  I graduated from the University of West Georgia, the University of North Georgia and earned an additional endorsement from the University of Georgia.  The first twenty years in the teaching profession I spent in the Pickens County School District.  My daughter and I came into the Gilmer County School System together when she began 1st grade.  She is currently attending college at Kennesaw State University.

Melinda Dillard

I graduated with both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from North Georgia College and a Specialist degree in leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.  I have taught for over 30 years in Fannin County and Cherokee County.  Most of those years, I have taught either kindergarten or first grade.  I am married to George and we have two grown sons, Tyler and Drew.  I enjoy traveling, reading and church activities.

Vicki Dillard

I retired in 2007 after teaching 32 years, all in kindergarten.  Since then I have kept busy as a substitute teacher and volunteering at the school from where I retired.  I attend Williamstown United Methodist Church where I help with the children's sermon, vacation Bible school, and writing the monthly newsletter.  I also enjoy working in my garden and canning vegetables in the summer.  During election years, I am a poll manager for Fannin County.

Gina Donahue

I graduated from University of West Georgia with a degrees in Middle Grades Ed and School Counseling. After 30 years, I retired in 2018 along with my husband and traveling companion, Mark. We enjoy cruising and have plans to see much more of the world as soon as travel restrictions are lifted after 2020!

Melinda Fonteboa

I am a math teacher at heart, teaching everything from eighth grade mathematics to AP Calculus during my career.   After spending ten years in the classroom, I became a high school administrator and am now the principal at Ellijay Elementary School.  I hold a B.S. in Secondary mathematics Education from Kennesaw State University, an M.Ed. in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University, an Ed.S. in Teaching and learning from Liberty University and doctorate degree in Teaching and learning from Liberty University.  I am a wife and the mother of two children and reside in Ellijay, Georgia.

Flora Grindstaff

I did my first year of teaching in Fairfax, Va. and then came home to Georgia where I continued to teach with the Atlanta City, Clayton and Fannin school systems.  I retired after 33 years in the classroom.  Most of my years were in Kindergarten.  I substituted for two years and then went back to full time teaching in Polk County, Tennessee.  After five years, I retired again.  I am happily married (45 years) to Bill Grindstaff and we have a son, Sam.  I attended Wesleyan College: BA in Elementary Education, Georgia State University; M.Ed. in Early Childhood and West Georgia University; Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education.  I now enjoy activities with Alpha Delta Kappa, Fannin Retired Teachers, First UMC of Copperhill, Book Club and, most recently, Master Gardeners.  I also enjoy making handmade cloth dolls.

I have been a member of Beta Upsilon since 2016.  Formerly, I served as a member of a chapter near Albany, Georgia. I am retired and reside in Ellijay, Georgia with my husband Duane.

I have been a member of Beta Upsilon since 1989.  I am retired and reside in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.

I served the chapter as president during the 2020-2022 biennium. My mother Laura Abernathy was a charter member of Beta Upsilon. I live near Blue Ridge, Georgia with my husband Mike. 

Brenda Henson

I am a Fannin County native and have taught kindergarten in Gilmer County for 28 years, 27 of which have been at Ellijay Primary School in Gilmer county.  I enjoy reading, camping and baseball.  I have one child, Matt Henson, who is currently Asst. Baseball Coach at Mars Hill University in North Carolina.  My husband is Danny and we reside in Morganton, Georgia with our two cats, Missy and Jigger.

Linda King

I am a Georgian but experienced living in other parts of the U.S. as well as Isfahan, Iran with my military husband.  During the first half of my 44 year marriage, I enjoyed a variety of jobs.  I chose something different each time we relocated.  My desire to teach was confirmed when I worked as a parapro in a high school math lab. I returned to college to earn a B.S. in math and education at the University of Southern Mississippi.  My last move was back to Georgia and into the classroom at Gilmer High School until my retirement in 2010.

I have been a member of Beta Upsilon since 1977.  I currently reside in Copperhill, Tennessee.

I transferred my membership from Florida back in 2019. I reside at Big Canoe near Ballground, Georgia. I am the chapter's chaplain and am also serving as chaplain at the district level in Dalton District. 

Jennille Martin

I am a University of Georgia and Marshall University graduate. I have served as a district grant coordinator, academic coach and administrator.  Currently, I serve as a private math tutor.  I am an avid quilter and Braves baseball fan.  I love my only grandson, Gavin, very much and spoil him every chance I get.

Dura Montgomery

I am a retired from teaching at Gilmer High School and Copper Basin High School.  I have been a member of Beta Upsilon since 2005 and currently reside in McCaysville, Georgia.

Gloria Nealey

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jimmy.  We share our home with two cats - Blake and Simone.  My educational background includes: 2 year Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from West Georgia College and University; Bachelors and Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from North Georgia College and University; and a Specialist Degree in Administrtion and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.  My hobbies include:  Retired Educators of Gilmer County, Garden Club of Ellijay, physical fitness, travel and opportunities for volunteering with other organizations. I am membership VP for the chapter and district co-chair-elect.

Becky Oliver

Hi! I am a retired high school math teacher and administrator.  I am the chapter treasurer.  I live with my husband and two cats in a small cabin in the mountains of North Georgia.  I am also active in the Friends of the Gilmer Library and in my local Gilmer Retired Educators unit.  I love Alpha Delta Kappa and my sisters around the world!

I am a retired teacher who taught Special Education in Fannin County, Georgia for 31 years.  I received degrees from Appalachian State University, North Georgia State University and West Georgia State University.  I currently enjoy gardening, reading, traveling, and visiting my granddaughters.  I have been a member of Alpha Delta Kappa since 1982 and it has been an important part of my life.

I graduated from the University of North Georgia and the University of West Georgia. I currently serve as the Fannin County School System District School Nutrition Director.  I enjoy traveling and spending time on the lake with J.B.  When not doing one of those, I am busy spoiling one or all of my six nieces and nephews.

I am actively engaged in education within the Fannin County School System.  I have been married 51 years to Jim Sisson.  I am the mother of four children (Charlie, Bruce, Gina, Candy) and 6 grandchildren.  I enjoy reading, birdwatching, traveling and canning homegrown fruits and vegetables.  I am also President-elect of the Fannin County Retired Educators Associaiton.

I am employed as a Special Education Coordinator/Autism Specialist for Gilmer County Charter Schools.  I hold a B.A. in Special Education from West Georgia College, an M.A. in Special Education and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans.  I have 31 years experience in the field of Special Education.  I live in Ellijay with my husband Lloyd.  We have one son, Jarod.

I am a wife, mother of two and grandmother of two.  I received my B.S. degree from Breneau University, Masters Reading Specialist from Fort Hays State University and Ed.S in Curriculum from Lincoln Memorial University.  I currently teach kindergarten at Ellijay Primary School.

I have been a member since 2018. I live in the Sugar Creek area of Fannin County. I am also an active member of the Fannin Retired Educators Association serving as treasurer.

A graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta, I received BBA and MBE degrees. My teaching career was spent in Cobb County, Georgia.  Currently, I enjoy singing in a senior adult community choir, participating in FCREA (Retired Educators), volunteering at church activities and working with a senior adult council.  My hobbies include genealogy research, gardening, and camping.
